Michael Lau Adds "Steel Grey" to PUMA's "Sample Suede" Series
“Not For You Only For Me.”

After teaming up to drop a colorful rendition of the Suede classic, Michael Lau and PUMA link up again to give us a new look in “Steel Grey.”
This time, the Hong Kong graffiti illustrator reworks the PUMA runner in muted tones for the plush upper and uses familiar zig-zag fabric samples for the finishing along the Formstripe, lacing and tongue. To capture a work-in-progress vibe, the shoe is embossed with text: “50 Sample Suede Not For You Only For Me.” About the detail Lau notes, “A lot of the times when I come up with a sneaker design, it’s not going to be for everyone. I rather think of them as products that are for collecting. I guess that because I approach it like artwork.” Other factory inspirations appear in the form of the Chinese character for “sample” printed on a sample swatch for the tongue and sockliner, while the letters “L” and “R” label the left and right pair, respectively.
The PUMA x Michael Lau “Steel Grey Sample Suede” is slated to release on January 20 for $100 USD at stockists like Sneaker Politics. Take a look above, and in case you missed it, you can now enter a drawing to purchase the highly anticipated Levi’s® x Air Jordan 4 collaboration.
