'The Karate Kid' Returns With Ralph Macchio & William Zabka Reprising Their Roles
Their long-awaited grudge match may finally happen.

YouTube Red has ordered a Karate Kid sequel series called Cobra Kai. The 10-episode series will serve as a sequel to the original film and is set to premiere sometime in 2018. Original Karate Kid stars Ralph Macchio (Daniel) and William Zanka (Johnny) will be reprising their roles as the two young disciples who went head-to-head in the karate tournament.
Cobra Kai is set 30 years after said karate tournament and sees the main antagonist, Johnny, struggling in life and reopening his old dojo as a result. Meanwhile, Daniel will be struggling to overcome the passing of his old mentor while dealing with the reappearance of his old rival Johnny.
The original Karate Kid hauled in $90 million USD on a $8 million USD budget, which subsequently spawned two sequels, a third sequel with a new main character, and the 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, netting the franchise as a whole over $500 million USD worldwide. It is currently unknown whether the series will address the other sequels and spinoffs.
