Onitsuka Tiger May Have Just Created the World's First Augmented Reality Sneakers
Will it live up to the AR hype?
Onitsuka Tiger has partnered up with Japanese fashion label Anrealage to create what may be the world’s first augmented reality sneakers. The collaborative silhouette centers upon the Anrealage Montez, a low-top shoe adorned in black and white. How does the AR technology work? First, you will need to download Anrealage’s mobile app and then scan the shoes as if you were capturing a photo. Anrealage’s logo will appear three-dimensional as Japanese rock band Sakanaction’s music booms in the background.
Unfortunately, the innovative concept is more enthralling than the actual execution. For starters, the AR effect only works on the left shoe. Additionally,”[the] AR app becomes less reactive due to factors such as wrinkle, brightness, shadow, angle, and distance,” said the duo in a statement. Furthermore, the app will take up a hefty 300MB of storage.
Nevertheless, see the AR function in action by watching the video above and then let us know your thoughts.
