When Chitose Abe reinforced her reverence in the fashion world with the latest Sacai 2018 Spring/Summer collection, many chose to preoccupy themselves with the impossibly opaque phrase “STASIS AS TO VECTOR ALL IN DUE COURSE” from conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner. Though it’s thoughtful to engross oneself in the idea behind the surface, one shouldn’t overlook the actual craftsmanship and materialization. After all, true fashion manifests through textiles, cuts, composition and structure.

Chitose Abe is a master mixer of fabric and color, whose genius is even more evident when you see her garments up-close. With that said, renowned photographer Julien Boudet for HYPEBEAST went behind the scenes at Sacai’s runway show to do the collection its full justice, spotlighting the beautiful fabrics, innovative material compositions and brilliant constructions.
