Nendo Has Created an "Ivy of Mirrors" Inside a Japanese Flower Art School
A tribute to the art of ikebana.
Japanese design house nendo has followed up its recent Invisible Outlines project at Milan Design Week with a sprawling new work at the Sogestsu School for Ikebana in Tokyo. Assembled from 2,000 pieces of mirror-finished stainless steel and draped across a stone garden created for Sogetsu by Isamo Naguchi, the Kaleidoscopic Ivy installation is a coming together of natural and otherworldly forms. Commissioned to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, the spectacular result — described by nendo as an “ivy of mirrors” — is at once familiar and extraordinary and a fitting tribute to the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging.
