London's Child Studio Unveils a Collection of Surrealist Lighting
“The precarious shapes were designed to create an assuming movement and optical illusion.”

“There is much more mystery in the shadow of a man walking on a sunny day, than in all religions in the world.”
This quote, oft attributed to Italian surrealist painter Giorgio De Chirico, serves as the basis for London-based Child Studio‘s very first collection of designs. Aptly dubbed “In the Shadow of a Man,” the range plays with the illusion of movement via sculptural lighting objects centered around glowing glass spheres. Each geometric sculpture’s sphere appears to be suspended in time and captured “at a point of subtle balance.” According to the studio, “The precarious shapes were designed to create an assuming movement and optical illusion, building a sense of anticipation and suspense. When viewed from different angles, the object’s shapes appear to change, creating beyond-real three-dimensional effects.”
“In the Shadow of a Man” is on display through April 8 at Ditta Angelo Radaelli as a part of Milan Design Week 2017.
