Watch Virgil Abloh's "Everything in Quotes" Lecture at Columbia University
The OFF-WHITE founder breaks down his creative influences.
Virgil Abloh recently delivered a talk at Columbia University to explain in length and detail about his many influences. The lecture titled, “Everything in Quotes” also dives into Abloh’s past as a Masters of Architecture student at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
The nearly two-hour presentation breaks down almost everything that has led to Virgil’s rise in the fashion industry with his brand OFF-WHITE. But he starts in the beginning with his “17 year-old self,” then making his way to his PYREX Vision days, and adding some stories from when he created some iconic designs for Kanye West. All in all, the speaking event was profound and Virgil intimately opens up about how he wants to inspire the young generation.
In a statement to HYPEBEAST from Virgil:
It was intended to for the first time draw a link between all my creative endeavors using my Architecture and Structural Engineering formal education and persistence to understand art but ultimately spread that message forward.
HYPEBEAST is just as important as Gagosian if you look at it the right way.
