Street Artist Apexer and Timbuk2 Drop a Line of Locally Made Bags With Old-School Prints
A Bay Area collab of fashion and art.
Sharing a common heritage on the streets of San Francisco, Timbuk2 has joined storied street artist Apexer on a capsule collection of messenger bags and backpacks wrapped in bold motifs created from the artist’s work. Based on a mural that the artist completed in Timbuk2’s HQ last year, the finished product is a line that’s modern in form and function, but also a throwback as the close crops of Apexer’s work channeling old-school ’80s graffiti. A fusion of the artist’s influences — which include fashion, graphic design and contemporary architecture — the range of three bags launches with a series of events at Timbuk2 stores beginning on March 8 in SF, before expanding to Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Toronto, Denver, Chicago and New York City on March 10. Finally, the rollout culminates with an online product drop on March 11.
Coinciding with the launch of the collaborative collection, Timbuk2 has produced a short film focused on Apexer’s role in the Bay Area’s graffiti scene as it evolved into a vibrant street art community. The video showcases the artist as he explores the city, highlighting some of his latest murals that weave sweeping lines and bright hues together to form complex large-scale works. Watch the film above, and check out the collection below, then head over to Timbuk2’s official website to find out more about the collection and the launch parties in your city.
