This New Balance 998 Is Inspired by the Northern Lights
Understated simplicity.
New Balance released a muted take on its 998, entitled “Northern Lights.” The sneaker features a dark upper, with complementing navy hits and a contrasting sole to evoke the proper amount of wintry wonder.
The “Northern Lights” model primarily consists of black nubuck, with grain leather accents on the “N” branding, heel and tongue executed in navy. The lustrous navy details add some shine to the shoe, evoking its name. Also in line with the theme, white splatters dot the ABZORB cushioning, the bright off-white sole stands apart from the subdued upper and the laces are woven with 3M strands to add appropriate glow.
Now available from retailers like Feature Sneaker Boutique, this Made in USA shoe retails for $190 USD. Meanwhile, New Balance’s 999 gets reworked by Concepts again for the “Hyannis.”
