The queen of Tejano music is getting a special internet tribute via Google‘s homepage in commemoration of her debut album which released 28 years ago today on October 17, 1989. The Selena doodle can be seen on the search page and finds an animated illustration of the iconic songstress singing to the tune of her all-time classic, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.” The idea for the Selena doodle was first pitched two years ago by Perla Campos, the Global Marketing Lead for Google Doodles who says Selena was a role model during her adolescence which helped her embrace her cultural identity as she got older. “This is someone I looked up to my entire my life and I wanted to create something special,” Campos told Google.

Google worked closely with Selena’s family throughout the whole process in creating the doodle, in addition to launching a exclusive Selena collection of content within Google’s online Arts & Culture Exhibit. “People will be able to see personal artifacts from the Selena museum,” says Suzette Quintanilla, sister of the late singer. “Every year, people come from all over the world to see her things at the museum, which is housed in our production company in Texas. Now, they’ll be able to see many of her outfits and personal belongings online. This is a perfect example that her memory is very much alive and her legacy is growing. She’ll never be forgotten.”

You can check out the Selena doodle above and of course on the Google homepage.
