The frosty Palais du Tokyo on the northern bank of the River Seine formed the setting for this year’s adidas Y-3 show at Paris Fashion Week, with black-clad brand aficionados braving the cold weather to witness the launch of the label’s 2017 fall/winter collection. This season, men’s and womenswear were presented comfortably alongside each other, united by designer Yohji Yamamoto‘s seamless fusion of sportswear and provocative high design.
With the intersection of the digital and natural worlds forming the major influence for this collection, standout features from a typically sleek offering included perforated knitwear, criss-crossing heavy-duty zips and straps and enveloping outerwear that cocooned models as they padded down the runway in adidas Y-3’s UltraBOOST soles and architectural high-tops. And as the show’s soundtrack switched from classical strings to artful slabs of distorted guitar, the collection’s palette also deviated from trademark black to deep greens and mottled blues and back again, as Yamamoto’s ongoing relationship with the sportswear giant continued to provide us with an inspired vision of the future.
