Jared Leto to Play Andy Warhol in Upcoming Biopic
Leto’s run continues.
After his polarizing take on the Joker in Suicide Squad, Jared Leto is looking to take on yet another larger-than-life personality in the months ahead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leto has been tapped to portray none other than Andy Warhol in an upcoming biopic regarding the late art icon. Simply titled Warhol, the film will also see the Academy Award-winning actor in a production role alongside Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Moneyball, Captain Phillips) while Boardwalk Empire creator and The Wolf of Wall Street writer Terence Winter will pen the screenplay based on Victor Bockris’ 1989 book, Warhol: The Biography. As The Hollywood Reporter also notes, Leto and De Luca “are not aiming for a low-budget indie with Warhol, but rather a strong mainstream project with prestige credentials.”
A timeline for Warhol‘s production and release are currently unknown, but, in the meantime, fans can catch Leto alongside Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Blade Runner sequel. The long-awaited followup to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic is currently slated for an October 6, 2017 release.
