'Fences' Trailer Shows Powerful Performances From Denzel Washington and Viola Davis
Based on the play by August Wilson.
Fences, directed by and starring Denzel Washington, aims to tell the emotional story of a father and his family during the 1950s. Like the 1983 play by award-winning American playwright August Wilson, the film explores themes related to race, fatherhood and religion. The movie includes the talented Viola Davis, who was also featured in the on-stage version of the story alongside Washington about six years ago.
Furthermore, this is the third directorial effort by Denzel Washington, The Great Debaters and Antwone Fisher were his earlier works. From the looks of it, Washington and Davis are set to deliver some powerful performances and could garner some Oscar-worthy buzz. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they and the film nab some Academy nominations and wins.
