The Nike Air Rift Gets Breezy
The Swoosh celebrates two decades of the unique split-toe design.

It’s been twenty years since the Swoosh introduced the Air Rift and, even in 2016, there’s really nothing else out there like it. Inspired by Kenyan distance runners and their barefoot training across the Great Rift Valley trench, the Air Rift remains known for its unique split-toe design — one that allows for the natural articulation of the wearer’s first and second toes. Couple that toe with an anatomical last and you have one of the more original running silhouettes out there.
Now, in honor of its 20th anniversary, the Rift is getting a little bit of an update with the brand new Air Rift Breathe. As you might expect given past Breathe drops, the latest addition to the family ditches the neoprene of the OG in favor of a more breathable mesh upper — construction perfect for the summer heat.
Expect the Air Rift Breathe — which follows last summer’s reintroduction of the original — to debut in four different colorways for both men and women come June 9 at select Nike stockists and nike.com.
