Demna Gvasalia Makes a Bold Statement at Balenciaga's First-Ever Men's Runway Show
Exaggerated silhouettes and high-heeled boots are changing Balenciaga’s look.

Demna Gvasalia of Vetements fame had the opportunity to helm Balenciaga’s first-ever men’s runway show in Paris today. Drawing on inspiration from Cristobal Balenciaga himself, Gvasalia proceeded to apply his own touch to the 2017 spring/summer collection. His menswear debut for the fashion house was a juxtaposition between boxy cuts with oversized shoulders and skin-tight vests paired alongside narrow, cropped trousers. The silhouettes were intense and angular, but the Georgian designer’s commitment to tailoring was ever present — visible in the show’s heavy use of coats, suit jackets and high-waisted pleated pants. Completing the collection were T-shirts, branded hats, and high-heeled boots in a variety of colors and materials. Demna’s new aesthetic for Balenciaga marks a huge change in the style of the brand — check out the runway show above and let us know if you’re feeling the new look in the comments below.
