'The Land' Tells a Story of Skateboarding and Crime in Cleveland
From Nas, starring Erykah Badu, Michael Kenneth Williams and Machine Gun Kelly, among others.
If there’s one narrative Hollywood should focus on more, coming-of-age stories starring people of color is definitely it. The Land looks to fill that void by telling the story of four inner city kids from Cleveland who find themselves embroiled in a criminal underworld after dealing drugs in order to sustain their new skateboarding hobby. Nas served as executive producer and Erykah Badu appears in a starring role, which should explain the star-studded soundtrack, which boasts new tracks from Esco, Badu, Kanye West, Jeremih and Nosaj Thing, among others. Michael Kenneth Williams and Machine Gun Kelly both lent their talents in supporting roles, so it’s safe to say that Steven Caple, Jr.’s directorial feature debut should make a splash at this year’s Sundance Festival.
