Junya Watanabe Wades Into the Wearable Tech Game With a Solar-Powered Trench Coat
A stylish alternative to the Mophie?

Japanese designer Junya Watanabe’s last catwalk presentation challenged many preconceptions about outerwear, both formally and functionally. Now we’re getting a closer look at one of the more eccentric pieces from that collection: a trench coat that has been outfitted with solar panels — four on the back and two on the front — and a hidden power-pack that can be used to charge mobile devices.
The coat marks the CDG alumnus’s first foray into wearable tech, and hopefully other designers will follow suit in due time.
The coat will retail for $2,215 USD and will drop in June.
