Goodyear Wants to Reinvent the Wheel With Its Eagle-360 Spherical Tires
Designed specifically for self-driving cars.
Goodyear has unveiled its latest concept tire — the Eagle-360 — at the Geneva Motor Show, and it is unlike anything on the road at the moment. The Eagle-360’s innovative spherical design maximizes vehicles’ maneuverability and bio-mimicry, while the array of sensors built into the tires constantly relays road and weather conditions to the vehicle’s computer for an optimized driving experience, down to individual tire pressure, temperature and other crucial variables.
The concept does rely on magnetic levitation and suspension, however, so full-scale execution may be a couple years out. But this does put us all one step closer to a Blade Runner-esque future populated with self-driving, flying cars. Baby steps.
