Uber Now Lets You Use Custom Snapchat Filters and Locate a Friend Directly
Filters everywhere.
Uber just unveiled two new features for its revamped app. Last month, the car service giant launched a redesigned dashboard that hosts a plethora of entertainment features. Now, the company just added custom Snapchat filters as well as an eerie albeit pretty convenient “friend locator.” There are a total of three filters to choose from: a standard banner for Uber, one that shows your estimated time of arrival and the last filter is a total “mystery,” as per The Verge—it presumably offers a random pictogram from a pool of filters. It’s important to note that these filters only work during a ride and if you’re logged into Snapchat.
As for the friend locator attribute, it allows existing users to request a trip directly to a friend instead of a place and of course, permission is required from both parties. More specifically, a push notification will be sent to the desired friend and they can either approve or deny the request. Here’s how to get it rolling, according to Uber:
1. Sync your contacts with the Uber app
2. Type in a friend’s name in the “Where to?” box
3. Your friend will receive a request from Uber to provide their current static location
4. Once they accept, their location is used as your destination and you can be on your way!
All in all, the company is spearheading a more quirky and social in-car riding experience despite its rather strict guidelines. Not to mention, it seems as if every major company out there has a Snapchat filter.
