Earlier this month, Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener teased a new, Tokyo-based episode of the pair’s OTHERtone series for Beats 1. Scheduled to feature an exclusive interview with Pharrell’s Billionaire Boys Club cohort NIGO, the new OTHERtone show was set to deliver an in-depth breakdown of the pair’s storied relationship. Now, the NIGO installment of OTHERtone is finally available for listening.
Debuted yesterday afternoon, NIGO’s exchange with Pharrell and Scott Vener features some significant information about the partnership that birthed Billionaire Boys Club. Specifically, Skateboard P and the BAPE founder reveal the backstory behind their first meeting together. As Pharrell explains, the duo were initially introduced to one another following a connection the iconic “Jacob the Jeweler.” After Pharrell visited NIGO at his studio and discovered the treasure trove of items hidden within, the rest was history. “I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” the Neptunes legend recalls.
