Jaguar Moves Into the Electric Car Arena With the I-Pace Concept
The concept SUV is due for a release in 2018.
Jaguar has announced its move into the electric car arena with the unveiling of a new concept car, the I-Pace. The company was expected to showcase its electric car capabilities with one of the company’s more typical coupes or touring cars, so it’s come as something of a surprise that they’ve made their foray into battery-powered vehicles with an addition to the SUV-led F-Pace line.
While it’s based on the same exteriors seen in the F-Pace series, the I-Pace was built from the ground up so it made full use of the electric car’s capabilities — meaning there’s a wider wheelbase, glass ceiling instead of a metal roof and seating placed closer to the front wheels. Finally, in what is most important for those who want to purchase an electric car, the car will also be able to run for approximately 220 miles between charges.
The car is in its concept stage right now, with an official unveiling next year before its eventual release in 2018.
