A year has passed since Ann Demeulemeester left her namesake house, handing the reins over to Sébastien Meunier. For fall/winter, we finally see Meunier breaking the mold left by Deemeulemeester, and coming into his own style and mark for the label. His inspiration came from trying to convey the tumult of love as a feeling, slicing garments in a way inspired by Arman, and playing with lights and shadows with a color palette inspired by Vermeer. His collection maintained long silhouettes that had the trademark Demeulemeester feel, but with contours and zippers for a spontaneous, militaristic flow. The show felt new and fresh, but still stayed true to the aesthetic we’ve become accustomed to from the label with lanky, brooding and melancholic models stomping down the runway.
