Presented in Jean Nouvel’s just-opened Philharmonie de Paris, KENZO‘s fall/winter offerings were young, loud and very KENZO. Carol Lim and Humberto Leon’s collection was inspired by “the idea of individuals built into a community, and openness to believing what else might be out there.” The extraterrestrial tone against the already futuristic setting made for a fine collection, boasting nylon suits, bomber jackets, chunky leather boots, and a startling silver coat. If the theme wasn’t obvious already, Lim and Leon included spaceship motifs and a KENZO-font UFO sweater to hammer the point home. The color palette was loud and neon to complement the overall theme, boasting crazy prints in psychedelic patterns, some reminiscent of binary code à la The Matrix. The collection isn’t for the minimalist, but definitely for the KENZO fan.
