The hiring of Justin O’Shea as creative director of Brioni makes perfect sense. The street style star is renowned during fashion week for his adeptness in wearing suits, whether it be pinstriped, double-breasted or in a classic two-piece. So Brioni acquiring him to helm the storied tailoring house was a no-brainer, and Mr. O’Shea was quick to answer the call by making some much-needed moves right away. Recently, he tapped iconic rock band Metallica to become the new faces of Brioni — the members decked out in the label’s sleek suits convey the idea of being able to double as cool rock ‘n’ roll musicians and influential entrepreneurs.
The rock theme still carries on for the brand’s 2017 spring/summer collection as demonstrated in its recent runway show. Sharp tailoring is no surprise when it comes to a brand like Brioni, but we also get a taste of O’Shea’s signature touches. There’s strikingly printed suits, shirting and ties for those looking to add a bit more personality in their wardrobe. Also, furs used in the outerwear pieces and blazers signal stylized excess for customers seeking a more glammed-up version of the silhouettes Brioni is known for creating. As “gangsters” were also the inspiration for the collection, O’Shea made sure this idea was seen through the precise cuts, patterns and fabrics used, “It’s very gangster to wear a silk shirt. That’s the kind of guy I want to appeal to,” he says.
