Gucci's 2016 Men's Spring/Summer Collection Reimagines the Past
History repeats itself in a nouveau manner, spurred by nature and designs from varying eras.
Gucci’s latest collection seeks to subtly push boundaries by reinterpreting its classic designs with unexpected updates. By reaching back into its archive, each ensemble was revived in a manner that allowed bygone eras to collide. A duffle bag and a pair of low-top sneakers bearing the brand’s signature GG print are upgraded with modern floral graphics inspired by 18th century Chinese tapestries. The iconic green and red web trim sees a contemporary revamp as it comes affixed to a ’70s-style suede bomber, along with a watch juxtaposed with a gold-embroidered bee. These unconventional design details complement sartorial mastery in this new men’s collection.
Set against a backdrop of vintage props evoking a strong, natural history presence, it’s clear that Gucci’s latest spring/summer lineup seeks to usher us into a lively, yet familiar future under the helm of Creative Director Alessandro Michele.
