If there’s one thing that Yoon Ahn’s AMBUSH knows how to do well, it’s to move through style codes while still retaining a street-savvy core. In previous seasons the Tokyo-based brand has voyaged through the spheres of rave kids, the mysticism of space, an evolving Tokyo, workwear and more – to note these are all aside from its long line of collaborations. Now with its latest collection for the Spring/Summer 2024 season, the brand decided to head to the classroom.

With notes of classroom stylings, the collection offers up the literal vision of a uniform. Although it’s easy to spot that being the collection’s over-arching theme, it would not be an AMBUSH collection without a little subversion. The idea of a typical uniform is met with a variety of street stylings, which offer a contemporary take on thematic dressing. A blazer may be paired with leather belt detailing, men’s pleated shorts take on both wider and slightly longer constructions and even classic v-neck sweaters are cut off at the naval to create a cropped silhouette.

The collection’s wardrobe is fit with the essentials including oversized leather jackets, cropped leather jackets, sporty coordinating sets, knitwear, tracksuits, remixed tops and more. Across the collection, the details are what truly bring the pieces into new uniform territory. A few standout pieces include jersey-inspired tops fixed with bejeweled numbers, large bows on button-down shirts, plaid mini skirts with bow and raw hems and a high-low blazer with a raw double-fabric edge. Complimenting the array of ensembles is a relatively light color palette, which contrasts the moodiness of previous seasons.

“I think uniforms show the reflection of human psychology,” Yoon Ahn told Vogue Runway. “As much as we like to be individualistic and expressive, we consciously or subconsciously always fall back into a ‘category.’”
