Two Rare 1960s Rolex Cosmograph Daytona "Paul Newman" Are Set for Auction
Hitting the auction block in October.
It looks like two very rare Rolex Cosmograph Daytonas are hitting the auction block at Bonhams. Specifically, the two watches going up for sale are amongst the most highly coveted watches from the Paul Newman Daytonas pieces.
To mark the 60th anniversary of Rolex Daytona, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona “Paul Newman” Ref. 6239 from 1965 and the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona “Paul Newman” Ref. 6241 watch from 1968, is going on sale at Bonhams. The 6239 was the first iteration of the Daytona that was released in 1963, debuting at a highly sought-after exotic cream dial. This particular watch was only produced in limited quantities and is expected to fetch up to $250,000 USD at the upcoming sale. As for the 6241, it is a manual wind chronograph in a stainless steall casing and an exotic dial as well. Also a watch that has become one of the most sought-after pieces amongst collectors, the wrist piece is expected to sell for over a quarter of a million dollars at Bonhams.
Bonhams’ Fine Watches auction is set to take place in New York City next month on October 12 at 12 p.m. EST. The Fine Watches and Chronographs Auction will take place in Paris on October 18 at 9 a.m. EST. For more information, check out the Bonhams website.
