Million Goods, a Brooklyn-based retail concept combining independent menswear, hi-fi, natural wine and cultural programming, has opened its second location in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. A roughly 2,100-square-foot space set inside a landmarked building, the new location ports the brand’s DNA from its original Greenpoint location further south in the borough.
Founders Drew Kaufmann and Matt Reyer treated the project as an adaptive reuse, keeping the building’s tin ceilings, fireplaces, wood floors and spiral staircase rather than gutting the interior. The store is split into three areas of about 700 square feet each: a bar and listening room on the lower level, a retail floor upstairs and a garden at the rear, visible from the entrance through large windows at the back of the listening floor.
The original spiral staircase connecting the two floors is now wrapped in red metalwork, while other details like pecan finished woodwork, honed stone surfaces and limewash paint compliment custom aluminum retail fixtures. Louis Poulsen PH 5 pendants and AJ Eklipta wall lamps illuminate the space while the sound comes Bridge Street Sound designed slim-profile speakers and Million Goods-developed dual-sided speakers, both tuned by Ojas collaborator and sound designer Mo Yasin.
The upstairs retail floor carries labels including Nicholas Daley, OAMC Peacemaker, Soulland, Rold Skov, LC23, Berner Kühl, Ranra and ssstein, with Kaufmann and Reyer selecting pieces directly with each brand. Downstairs, the natural wine list centers on France, the Fort Greene location serving a broader by-the-glass selection than Greenpoint. Out back, the garden incorporates the existing trees into the built-in seating with a layout that references Brazilian Brutalism and Japanese garden design.
Million Goods Fort Greene is now open Tuesday through Sunday from noon until 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Sundays, 11 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 12 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The original Greenpoint store continues to operate at 88 Franklin Street.
