Summary

Yung Lean made his first US television appearance at the 2026 VMAs, performing alongside GENER8ION

The staging recreated the final scene of their viral "Storm" video, which puts the Swedish rapper among a large crowd of dancers on a set of bleachers

The performance ended with Yung Lean spitting ice cream at the camera

Yung Lean and GENER8ION took “Storm” from screen to stage at the 2026 MTV VMAs, officially marking the Swedish rapper’s US TV debut. Rather than a standard set, they rebuilt the most talked-about moment from their music video live at the Peacock Theater.

To see why the staging worked, it helps to start with the source material. The “Storm” video came out in April and quickly went viral. Directed by Romain Gavras, it casts Lean as a bully at an upscale, futuristic boarding school. Its long closing sequence is the centerpiece: Lean, in a suit and tie, stands on a set of bleachers while a large troupe of dancers dressed the same way launches into intense, full-body choreography around him. Gavras films it from a wide angle, keeping Lean still and smoking as the crowd surges around him.

The VMAs performance rebuilt that image for a live broadcast. Lean took the stage with the full ensemble of dancers, bringing the video’s final scene to the Peacock Theater in real time. The live version keeps the same contrast as the video: a motionless central figure surrounded by a large group of dancers in constant motion.

In the final moments, Lean spat ice cream directly at the camera, a closing shot that has been circulating in clips from the broadcast.
