Summary

Seiko gifted its long-time ambassador, Shohei Ohtani, a bespoke "Star Time" watch.

Developed over three years, the piece symbolizes time, achievement and legacy.

It features five layered discs tracking up to one million hours with diamond accents.

Seiko has marked a milestone in its partnership with Shohei Ohtani, presenting the Major League Baseball star with a one‑of‑a‑kind wristwatch called the Seiko Star Time. Developed over three years, the project was inspired by Ohtani’s reflection on his career and his question of how much time he has left in baseball. The watch is capable of displaying cumulative time up to one million hours – just over 114 years – through a unique system of five layered discs, making it unlike any other wristwatch currently in existence.

The design draws inspiration from stars traversing the night sky, with each disc representing increments of time from 24 hours to one million hours. Diamonds set into the discs add a celestial quality, while their imperceptible motion mirrors the gradual accumulation of effort and achievement over time. The case is crafted from high‑intensity titanium, paired with a box‑shaped sapphire crystal and a custom silicone strap tailored to Ohtani’s wrist. At 41.8 mm in diameter and 17.4 mm thick, the watch balances technical innovation with wearability, while remaining water‑resistant to 10 bar.

Presented personally by Seiko Watch Corporation Chairman Shinji Hattori, the Star Time represents both a tribute to Ohtani’s decade as a Seiko ambassador and a landmark in watchmaking culture. Ohtani praised the creation as “exactly as I had imagined,” while Seiko emphasized the watch’s significance as a symbol of cumulative time and human achievement. Though not for sale, the Star Time underscores Seiko’s ability to merge technical mastery with cultural storytelling, reinforcing its legacy of marking life’s defining moments through horology.
