George Condo and Hauser & Wirth are back together. Condo recently renewed his partnership with the gallery, which also announced two major shows at its Paris and Palo Alto locations next year.
The news arrives less than a year after Condo departed Hauser & Wirth for Sprüth Magers and Skarstedt, ending his six-year run with the mega-gallery. A spokesperson confirmed that the artist will continue his longtime relationship with Sprüth Magers, whose gallerist, Monika Sprüth, first exhibited Condo’s work in 1984.
Curatorial details about the upcoming exhibitions have yet to be released, though the gallery promises pairings of historical and new works, tracing the arc of Condo’s practice while making connections to each city’s creative legacy.
“My love affair with Paris may be decades long but it’s endlessly self-renewing,” Condo wrote in a recent statement, highlighting the city’s rich traditions of art, literature, and creative thought. “At the same time, I am extremely curious about the prospect of Palo Alto and bringing new art to the birthplace of technology.”
One of the biggest names in contemporary painting, Condo is coming off an internationally acclaimed 2025 career survey at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris. “George is, and always has been, a true pioneer,” Hauser & Wirth president Marc Payot said. “With his uncanny ability to synthesize past and present into a completely new artistic language, we know these exhibitions will dazzle.”
