Nintendo has officially confirmed the return of Fox McCloud with an expansive Star Fox remake tailored for the Switch 2 console. After keeping the beloved franchise on hiatus for the better part of a decade, the gaming giant is testing the waters with a complete visual and mechanical overhaul of the series’ most iconic entry.
Rebuilding the 1997 classic from the ground up, the upcoming release delivers a staggering graphical upgrade that breathes new life into the Lylat System. Cutscenes are beautifully animated and deeply developed, while piloting the signature Arwing fighter feels incredibly smooth. Despite the modern polish, Nintendo remains faithful to the original rail-shooter formula, ensuring long-time fans can still execute barrel rolls and uncover classic stage secrets.
Beyond the visual enhancements, the remake introduces new mechanical features. Players can utilize the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers for an immersive first-person cockpit view, opening the door for a unique co-op setup where one person flies while the other guns. Additionally, the title expands its multiplayer offerings with a 4v4 capture-the-flag mode and introduces facial-tracking Game Chat avatars for those equipped with the console’s camera attachment.
Check out the gameplay updates above. The Star Fox remake is set to drop on June 25 via the Nintendo eShop and select gaming retailers.
