Dr. Martens and fragment design have reunited for the first time since 2019, unveiling the “fragment Hollingborn Brogue,” a sleek and rich reimagination of the classic 5-hole silhouette.
The UK-based shoemaker and Hiroshi Fujiwara’s label aren’t strangers, having introduced their custom fragment silhouette, the Hollingborn, seven years ago. With their original model as the canvas, Fujiwara transformed the utilitarian shoe into an elevated wingtip brogue that toes the line between formality and everyday practicality.
At the center of the collaborative design is the new material overhaul. The upper is dressed entirely in a black high-shine patent leather, providing a polished contrast to the footwear brand’s famously subcultural sensibilities associated with Britain’s music scene. Fujiwara’s approach informs the finer details: tonal black eyelets, subtle cord laces, and a matching black welt with cohesive tonal stitching in place of Dr. Martens’ usual high-contrast yellow stitching. Grounding the final result is fragment design’s iconic lightning bolt insignia, which is subtly positioned on the outer heel.
