Charlize Theron is gearing up for a brutal fight for survival. Netflix has officially debuted the explosive first trailer for Apex, a tense new action thriller that pits the Academy Award-winning actress against a heavily armed, cold-blooded killer. Delivering breathtaking stunts against the rugged backdrop of the Australian Outback, the highly anticipated film promises a gripping, high-stakes game of cat and mouse where the only rule is to hunt or be hunted.
Directed by Baltasar Kormákur and penned by Jeremy Robbins, Apex centers around Sasha (played by Theron), a grieving woman who embarks on a solo adventure in the wilderness to push her physical and emotional limits. However, her journey of self-discovery is violently interrupted when she crosses paths with Ben (played by Taron Egerton), a ruthless psychopath who views her merely as his next target. Giving her a brief head start before his pump-up music ends, Ben initiates a deadly pursuit across cliffs, rapids, and dense forests.
“This is a psychological thriller,” Theron shared with Netflix regarding the intense project. “It’s really a story about survival, not just physically but emotionally. And it’s about finding out what you’re made of.” Egerton also weighed in on his villainous turn, noting that his character operates on a warped spiritual code. “In my version of the story, Ben is the hero,” the actor explained. “He doesn’t see himself as a killer; he’s just a hunter looking for his next target.”
Adding to the film’s visceral intensity, both Theron and Egerton performed many of their own stunts in the wilds of Australia alongside the film’s dedicated stunt department. To prepare for Sasha’s imposing physicality and the film’s demanding cliffside sequences, Theron even trained extensively with legendary professional rock climber Beth Rodden.
Apex will hold its official premiere in New York City on April 22, before dropping globally on Netflix on April 24, 2026.
