BEAMS and New Balance have announced their first-ever “Made in USA” apparel collaboration. Launching later this week, this special-edition capsule translates the prestige and craftsmanship of New Balance’s flagship footwear into a premium clothing line. Every garment in the collection is manufactured in the United States, staying faithful to the heritage and production standards of the brand’s most iconic sneaker series.
The collection draws direct inspiration from two legendary silhouettes: the 990 and the 1300. By unraveling the history of these models, BEAMS has reconstructed their essence into four core styles — a crew neck sweatshirt, a zip-up hoodie, a heavyweight T-shirt and rugged sweatpants. The color story is a tribute to the “Steel Blue” of the 1985 M1300 and the classic “Heritage Gray” of the original 1982 990, using expert color design to evoke the specific nostalgia associated with each model.
Constructed from substantial, thick-knit cotton and heavyweight fabrics, the pieces offer a tough, textured feel that mirrors the durability of New Balance sneakers. To ensure a contemporary edge, the silhouettes have been updated with a more relaxed, oversized fit compared to standard athletic wear, positioning the collection as a sophisticated fashion statement rather than mere gym gear. This collaboration represents a masterclass in blending Japanese curation with authentic American manufacturing and is set to launch on January 9 at BEAMS.
