‘The Social Network 2’ Receives New Title, October 2026 Release Date

Aaron Sorkin‘s The Social Network 2 has received an official release date, title and casting updates.

The followup to the 2010 film will now be released as The Social Reckoning, and is scheduled to hit theaters on October 9, 2026. Joining the main cast are A-listers Jeremy Strong, Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White and Bill Burr. Sorkin is returning as the film’s writer and director. He will also produce alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser, with production set to begin in October.

The Social Reckoning is described as “a companion piece” to 2010’s The Social Network, and is loosely based on Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz’s The Facebook Files series. Taking place almost 20 years after its predecessor, the film follows young Facebook engineer Frances Haugen (Madison) teaming up with Horwitz (White) to blow the whistle on the social media platform.

The Facebook Files, published in 2021, revealed how Facebook was aware of its negative impact on teenagers, the platform’s complicity in spreading misinformation and how that contributed to acts of violence in developing countries.
