Comedy Central has officially re-signed Jon Stewart to an extended contract, keeping the veteran host at the helm of The Daily Show through 2028. The two-year renewal ensures Stewart will remain behind the desk through the next U.S. presidential election cycle.
Stewart’s previous contract had been slated to expire at the end of 2026 following a one-year renewal in November 2025. Under the extended agreement, Stewart will continue to lead the program alongside a rotating roster of hosts that includes Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic, supported by non-hosting correspondents Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt. Stewart also maintains his executive producer role alongside showrunner Jen Flanz and his longtime manager, James “Baby Doll” Dixon.
The extension follows a wave of corporate consolidation across the network’s parent entities. Stewart previously renewed his deal shortly after Skydance Media acquired Comedy Central’s parent company, Paramount. The latest renewal arrives just weeks after the David Ellison-led conglomerate finalized a merger between Paramount and Warner Bros.
Stewart initially made his hosting debut on The Daily Show in 1999 before departing in 2015, handing the desk to Trevor Noah, who anchored the satirical news broadcast until 2022. Following Stewart’s return in February 2024, the program experienced a substantial ratings lift, with Paramount metrics identifying the broadcast as the most-viewed cable program across social media in 2026.
Addressing the continuation of the franchise, George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance TV, praised the host’s enduring cultural footprint, “Jon Stewart is a generational talent and ‘The Daily Show’ continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central. We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award winning news team.”
