Continuing their ongoing collaboration, Italian retailer Slam Jam has unveiled its Fall collection with Umbro, the English sportswear purveyor. Tying together Umbro’s affiliations in football and subculture, Slam Jam brings an unconventional edge to Umbro’s casual styles through a contrast of formal tradition and urban grit.
Checked like a taupe anorak and track pant set subtly translates the tailoring of Britain and Italy to sportswear silhouettes, while a furry Umbro football jersey evokes the collaborators’ more ambitious creations — like last season’s chainmail jersey. Elsewhere, a graphic football kit is pre-distressed with tattered hemlines and patchworked panels and clashing tartans clad in co-branded caps.
In the campaign produced by Berlin-based studio Gruppe, accessories lean further into the whimsy with Medieval jester hats in fur and nylon, as well as plaid and quilted bonnets. Throughout the various jersey styles, a crown motif and heraldry icons intermix with Umbro insignias and “Cult Unity” graphics. Across the collection, a particular homage to Manchester is represented by large-scale typographic embroideries and recurring rose crests.
