Nike pays homage to baseball legend Jackie Robinson with a special Cortez model. The “Jackie Robinson Day” offering arrives with a white leather base and beige suede overlays by the heel, toebox and eyelets. The exposed red stitching on the heel also takes inspiration from a baseball’s lacing threads.

Reflective chrome outlines the black leather panel swoosh, with additional branding honoring Robinson’s #42 jersey number. This detail lands on the chrome tongue tag, debossed heel stamps and the insoles — the last of which sees #42 in the style of all the MLB teams as it is the only jersey number to be retired by every single franchise. The lifestyle/running shoe then rests on a striped white midsole and herringbone outsole. Tying them together for a neat finish are white laces with silver dubraes.

Jackie Robinson Day is commemorated every April 15 in remembrance of the late athlete breaking the color barrier. On the same day in 1947, he started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers which signalled the end of racial segregation in professional baseball. He spent 10 years in the MLB and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1962, and died in October 1972 from a heart attack.
