Melbourne’s bar scene—specifically in Collingwood—just got a whole lot quirkier with the arrival of Slowpoke Lounge & Lookout. This offbeat rooftop venue that just opened earlier this month is perched atop Zero Gipps on Gipps Street.

Co-founders Bradley Wynne, Gabe Neri and Dustin Hefford have channeled their combined experience in event production, brand development and immersive experiences into developing a venue that feels both familiar and unexpected. As a result, the rooftop spot is a nostalgic yet stylish retreat where guests are encouraged to embrace their quirkiest selves. Inspired by Looney Tunes’ Slowpoke Rodriguez, the bar’s laid-back charm invites visitors to slow down, connect and enjoy.

The interior combines clean mid-century modern lines with the rawness of Brutalism and the glam of 1970s Italian design. The space feels like stepping into a friend’s eccentric yet effortlessly cool living room.

And while Melbourne’s wine bars often stick to the familiar rotation of crudo and focaccia, Slowpoke’s menu takes a different route entirely. Designed by Slowpoke co-founder and head chef Wynne, the food leans into comfort, nostalgia and a hint of mischief.

The Kingfish crudo? Swapped for hash brown fries, a golden, savoury churro-meets-pancake hybrid that arrives with Slowpoke’s secret sauce. Focaccia is benched in favour of The Slowpoke Cheeseburger, a luxe, slowed-down riff on the Macca’s icon, reimagined with considered technique and quality ingredients. To finish, there’s classic apple pie, served warm with your choice of cream or ice cream.

On the drinks front, the cocktail list, curated by Melbourne hospitality veteran Harry Costello (ex-Bar Romantica), delivers both crowd-pleasers and clever house twists. There’s a silky Hazelnut Espresso Martini, a Coconut Margarita, and a standout Picante, balanced with house-infused honey for a subtle hit of sweetness and heat. For non-drinkers, the house-brewed Iced Tea and Spiced Lemonade hit the mark.

Slowpoke Lounge & Lookout is open from Thursday to Sunday. Head to their official website for more info.
