  • TAG Heuer and Hiroshi Fujiwara unveiled their third collaborative timepiece: Carrera Chronograph x fragment Limited Edition
  • Limited to 500 pieces, it reimagines glassbox Carrera in a monochrome design, imbued with subtle fragment motifs

TAG Heuer has just revealed the Carrera Chronograph x fragment Limited Edition, marking its third collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara, the “Godfather of Streetwear.” Limited to 500 pieces, the model reinterprets the iconic “glassbox” Carrera through Fujiwara’s minimalist philosophy, blending Swiss horological precision with streetwear sensibilities. The 39 mm stainless steel case, domed sapphire crystal, and monochrome black-and-white dial establish a disciplined aesthetic, while subtle fragment lightning bolt logos appear on the date disc at 1 and 11 o’clock, adding playful yet restrained detail.

Fujiwara describes his design approach not as invention but as observation, emphasizing restraint and balance. In his interview with Hypebeast Japan, he explained: “I don’t want the logo to be too prominent. It’s better if only those who notice it can appreciate it. Watches are seen every day, so just a small sense of ‘discomfort’ is enough.” He further noted that this collaboration was guided by his own instincts rather than external direction, stating, “This time it was closer to my first project, progressing with my own sensibility”. This philosophy results in a chronograph that strips away excess, leaving only purposeful elements.

“It’s more about ‘discomfort’ than ‘subtraction.’ I prefer when things are a little off as opposed to something that’s too perfect.” – Hiroshi Fujiwara

In terms of technical specifications, the timepiece is powered by TAG Heuer’s in-house Calibre TH20-00 automatic movement and equipped with 80 hours of power reserve. The movement’s column wheel and vertical clutch are visible through a sapphire caseback, which is engraved with a Victory Wreath — a nod to Jack Heuer’s tradition of gifting gold watches to victorious Formula 1 drivers. The fragment logo is printed directly onto the crystal, reinforcing the collaboration’s identity. The bracelet, a reworked “beads-of-rice” design with black PVD central links, echoes the stark monochrome palette, balancing vintage Carrera heritage with contemporary refinement.

For Fujiwara, the project embodies what he calls a philosophy of “discomfort” rather than perfection. He explained: “For me, it’s more about ‘discomfort’ than ‘subtraction.’ I prefer when things are a little off as opposed to something that’s too perfect.” This perspective aligns with his broader design ethos, where subtle disruptions create intrigue without overwhelming the original form.

Priced at 8,150 CHF (approx. $10,130 USD) and available through TAG Heuer’s website, the Carrera Chronograph x fragment Limited Edition comes presented in a sleek black box with an embossed pouch, underscoring its collectible status. As Fujiwara reflected, “Maybe it goes against the times now, but if years later people think, ‘I’m glad I bought it,’ then that’s enough”.
