Summary

  • The 17-27 anthology animates eight of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s early one-shot stories
  • Each short film is directed by a different creative team, showcasing diverse visual and narrative styles
  • The collection launches globally on Prime Video on November 7, 2025

Tatsuki Fujimoto, renowned for his breakout manga Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch, is set to expand his creative legacy with the release of the anime film anthology Tatsuki Fujimoto: 17–26. This collection animates eight of Fujimoto’s formative one-shot stories written between the ages of 17 and 26, offering fans an intimate look at the origins of his distinctive voice and thematic style.

Each of the eight anthology entries is helmed by a different director and studio, resulting in a collection that showcases a striking variety of visual and narrative approaches. Titles include A Couple Clucking Chickens Were Still Kickin in the Schoolyard, a post-apocalyptic tale centered on the bond between two survivors; Sasaki Stopped a Bullet, which examines the turbulence of adolescence; Mermaid Rhapsody, a touching romance involving a boy and a mermaid and Love is Blind, a science fiction romantic comedy set on a cosmic scale. Other stories such as Shikaku, Woke-Up-as-a-Girl Syndrome, Nayuta of the Prophecy and Sisters further reveal the breadth of Fujimoto’s early imagination, blending absurdity, intensity and deeply personal narratives.

While Chainsaw Man has already cemented Fujimoto’s place in contemporary manga and anime culture, this anthology highlights the breadth of his storytelling and the experimental edge that has defined his career since its earliest days. The anthology began a special limited theatrical run in Japan this month, with a global rollout confirmed on Prime Video for November 7, 2025. Individual trailers for each short film have also been released, offering a first look at the unique interpretations awaiting viewers.
