Leica has unveiled the M EV1, a new full-frame system camera that marks a significant step for the M-System by being the first in the series to integrate an electronic viewfinder (EVF). This new model successfully combines the advantages of an EVF with the traditional values that define the M-System. It features a full-metal housing made of magnesium and aluminum and is covered with leatherette. The camera also utilizes the established Leica M bayonet with an additional sensor for 6-bit encoding.
Internally, the Leica M EV1 mirrors the advanced configuration of the M11, featuring a full-frame BSI-CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution Technology. This sensor enables photographers to capture images at 60, 36 or 18 megapixels, offering flexibility in balancing resolution, file size, and dynamic range. In addition, the M EV1 introduces support for Content Credentials, a feature designed to authenticate and preserve the integrity of digital images, reflecting Leica’s commitment to both innovation and trust in visual storytelling. By combining cutting-edge imaging technology with the timeless design of the M-System, the M EV1 positions itself as a bridge between tradition and modernity.
The Leica M EV1 will be available worldwide through Leica Stores, the official Leica website, as well as authorized dealers, retailing at £6,840 GBP/ $8,995 USD.
