In its Spring/Summer 2025 offering, WHIZ LIMITED is gearing up for the unpredictable. With today’s rather than reliable weather conditions leading the design approach, the Hiroaki Shimono-helmed label is leaning into innovative layering techniques in its new Spring/Summer 2025 collection aptly entitled “THE FUTURE IS MINE.”

Shimono’s imprint looks to push the needle on how – and what – we layer, presenting a plethora of patterns, textures and striking colorways throughout the range; yet at the same time, Shimono ensures to stay true to the WHIZ LIMITED vision, noting on the website that the collection is likely to feel “nostalgic for those who have been supporting the brand for a long time.”

“I always start by designing something I want to wear. This time, I had a vague image in mind, and the words were American casual, work, and beauty,” continued Shimono on the WHIZ LIMITED blog. “It’s our 25th anniversary in summer. I realized that as I was designing what I wanted to wear, American casual, work, and beauty were mixed together and transformed into a European atmosphere. It’s like a European hip-hop style now. It’s like an urban style of workwear that’s sophisticated without being earthy. I think it’s a collection with a strong contrast, not only because of the use of functional and elegant materials but also because of the lineup of elaborate and warm items.”

Leading the delivery is a lineup of jackets, with the weather-proof TRANSPORT structure surfacing on a coverall jacket and pair of pants. The jacket’s chest pocket and the inside of the sleeves are crafted from coated ripstop fabric, while patching adorns the pocketing. A hoodie is made from similar waterproof fabric; if you attach only the large Velcro around the neck, it takes the shape of a normal hood – or if you pull out the flap on the inside of the drawstring, it transforms into a mask to cover your nose.

The TEK jacket takes a similar form, with the bright yellow shell’s outer material crafted from a matte, water-repellent nylon, though it takes a cotton-like feel. The GRID jacket, on the other hand, draws design inspiration from a sukajan jacket with its diamond quilted stitching. However, the body of the jacket looks to that of a biker jacket for inspo, as cuffs are piped like an outdoor jacket while the hem is ribbed like a stadium jacket.
