Sneaker loafers were one of 2024’s biggest footwear trends. Brands from New Balance to Mizuno and Fendi threw their hat (foot?) in the ring, and it doesn’t appear as if the hybrid style will be going anywhere in 2025, with HOKA joining the sneaker loafer movement via its just-announced Speed Loafer silhouette.
The brand’s thick-midsole style is ubiquitous in the modern footwear market — precisely why it was named footwear brand of the year for the 2024 Hypeawards — and it’s compellingly brought to the loafer world via the Speed Loafer thanks to the use of the popular Speedgoat 5‘s midsole and Vibram outsole.
Though those two pieces are familiar to any HOKA fan, and prompt sneaker media to use made-up terms like “elderly chunksters” to describe the look, it’s what’s up top, and the juxtaposition that it provides with the bottom half, that’s the most compelling bit here. There’s a full-on leather construction complete with tassels and a leather insole with a gold foil stamp. Then, a suede overlay, a detail ofen found on casual footwear is added to truly toe the line between luxury and performance.
