NEEDLES FW25 Evokes Tokyo's Expressive Ethos

A collage of Ivy League, western and countercultural styles reflects the city’s fearless approach to fashion.

NEEDLES has unveiled its FW25 collection with a campaign situated in the bustling streets of Tokyo. Much like the crowded surroundings filled with signage, decals, and various styles of architecture, the Japanese streetwear label approaches this season with an especially eclectic lineup.

Representing Ivy League inspirations, reimagined collegiate suits with embroidered crests are rendered in a simple black check and bold purple diamond pattern. However, NEEDLES never leans too heavily into formality, blending in unexpected bohemian elements like printed underlayers and tie-dye accessories.

The technicolor accessories only skim the surface styles that recall the counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s. Flare pants boast vintage floral patterns, belt buckles are shaped into wonky peace signs, puffer vests feature images of majestic cranes, and corduroy jackets are adorned with silver studded hearts.

The collection also swings away from white-collar iconography with workwear and military-inspired numbers including distressed canvas carpenter pants, complete with a tool belt, and a hooded olive green liner jacket. Breaking convention further with traditional menswear, a kimono-like jacket is paired with a long pleated skirt utilizing a brown plaid fabric.

Ideal for layering, skirts are found throughout the collection in various styles and materials like brushed wool leopard print and wallpaper florals. Finally, in true NEEDLES style, especially oversized bottoms including cargos, track pants and flannel shorts give the free-flowing impression of skirts in various materials.

Anything but quiet, NEEDLES’ latest offering reads as an ode to expression–advocating for an open-minded approach to dress that transcends geography and history.
