DC Studios‘ James Gunn recently said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he has “contemplated” bringing Robert Pattinson‘s Batman to his new DC Universe. With the release of animated series Creature Commandos, Gunn’s DC Universe officially began last month.

At this time, Pattinson’s Batman exists outside the DCU in Elseworld but Gunn states that he often thinks about bringing the character into his DCU. He said, “I’ve contemplated it, yeah. I contemplate everything. I talk about everything.” He confirms that he is “committed to both telling stories in the DCU and Elseworlds stories,” which is currently where The Batman series stands, sharing that he does “want the freedom to tell Elseworld stories.”

The Batman director Matt Reeves recently said at the Golden Globes in response to Gunn’s contemplation of bringing Batman into the DCU, “It really comes down to whether it makes sense. There was a story I wanted to tell. The epic crime saga. It’s been important to me to play that out and James and Peter have been really great about that. They are letting us do that. What the future brings, I can’t really tell you. I have no idea. My head is down right now on getting The Batman Part II shooting, which is the most important thing.” When asked, “And if they decide we really want Rob to be our DCU Batman?” Reeves responded, “I don’t know. We will have to see where that goes.”

The Batman 2 arrives on October 1, 2027.
