The Cure Drops New Single “Alone” for First LP in 16 Years

After almost two decades, The Cure has made a much-awaited return with a new epic track titled “Alone.” The single will serve as the opening number for the band’s forthcoming LP Songs Of A Lost World.

The song begins with an extravagant instrumental arrangement comprising swelling strings and stadium drums before lead singer Robert Smith’s classic yearning vocalizations enter nearly halfway through the almost seven-minute track.

According to a statement from the band, the song takes its inspiration from a Victorian poem titled “Dregs” by British poet Ernest Dowson. Melancholic lyrics like “The fire burned out to ash and the stars grown dim with tears” narrate feelings of loneliness, illustrated with poetic images.

The band, considered one of the most influential rock acts to rise out of the UK, previewed several tracks on their most recent tour Shows Of A Lost World, which spanned 90 days and 33 countries.
