NOT A HOTEL TOKYO Taps NIGO for Creative Direction

Japanese hospitality startup NOT A HOTEL has tapped the prolific fashion legend NIGO to fully creative direct its upcoming Tokyo Bay cliffside vacation home.

Under the creative direction of NIGO, NOT A HOTEL TOKYO brings a dreamy cliffside getaway from the Tokyo Bay. Revealing the renderings of the upcoming project, NOT A HOTEL TOKYO will be the first residence in the metropolitan area. With a stunning and direct view of Mount Fuji as well as the living room’s floor-to-ceiling windows, the hotel is pristinely located off the coast of Futtsu, Chiba. It is 45 minutes out from Haneda Airport and approximately one hour by car from Tokyo Station.

NIGO has curated the entire NOT A HOTEL TOKYO experience, as well as the overall concept, down to the smallest of details. Owners of the home will be able to drive straight into the house through a tunnel. The living room furniture pieces include a vintage selection of two of NIGO’s favorite designers, Jean Prouvé and Pierre Jeanneret. With a dining room that seats 12, including a full kitchen equipped with a prep area, the space is fit for hosting gourmet meals. There is a listening room in the bag featuring speakers from New York’s OJAS.

Taking it outside, NIGO adds his special touch, including a giant inflatable duck, a signature to his own HUMAN MADE brand. Ensuring that the space has room for guests, NIGO elevates Japan’s famous sleeping pods with his own design, identical to the ones in NIGO’s own personal vacation home. The house features multiple bedrooms as well as a sauna, gym and wooden Japanese bath. It will also feature a proper traditional tea room ready for sadō tea ceremony. An avid collector, NIGO aims to decorate the house with a giant KAWS statue on the roof.

My worldview is contained in this house. I believe that a home needs people inside to be meaningful and ‘alive,’ and so I look forward to the day when owners begin staying there.” NOT A HOTEL TOKYO is scheduled to begin production this fall.
