LEGO Brings the Nostalgia with Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi Set
Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.
LEGO kicked off San Diego Comic-Con 2024 with the exciting announcement of the LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set. This marks the fifth addition to the LEGO Super Mario range for adults, following the release of the Piranha Plant in late 2023.
The new set features the beloved characters Mario and Yoshi in a nostalgic tribute to their early days. For the first time, fans can see Mario’s trusty companion, Yoshi, rendered in 2D LEGO brick form. The new set celebrates the classic Super Mario World game, known for its pixelated visuals and iconic gameplay.
Carl Merriam, Senior Designer for LEGO Super Mario, shared insights into the creation process stating: “We aimed to capture the original sprite animation from Super Mario World. By recreating the pixel art in LEGO bricks and incorporating a mechanism to make Yoshi run with Caped Mario riding on his back, we brought a piece of gaming history to life. Additionally, we included a dial to make Yoshi’s tongue pop in and out, just like in the game!”
Beyond the building experience, the set stands as a striking display piece. It joins other fan-favorite models like The Mighty Bowser and Piranha Plant in the “Adults Welcome” series, designed to bring back memories for LEGO enthusiasts who grew up with Super Mario.
The LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set is available for preorder now via LEGO’s official site for $125 USD and will be released on October 1 online and in select LEGO stores.
